Humorous Flash Fiction Contest 2020

Weekly Chokus in collaboration with Mamoona Foundation proudly presents its first humorous flash-fiction contest:


(1) The contest is open to individuals of all ages who self-identify as Pakistanis and live in Pakistan.

(2) Participants can submit multiple entries per contest, but all entries must be previously unpublished in print and online.

(3) The reading period is November through December 2020. We will announce the winning entry and the two runners-up on January 1, 2021.


(1) You must root your humorous stories in a Pakistani setting, i.e. people, places, ideas, etc.

(2) Your stories must be in English.

(3) Please restrain yourselves to 500-1000 words.


(1) There is no submission fee.

(2) Subscribe to the Weekly Chokus using the website form.

(3) Email your entries to

(4) We reserve the right to correct spelling and punctuation before publishing.

(5) Only email your entries in the Microsoft Word Document (.doc or .docx) format.

(6) Please use the following syntax to name your files: story title_your name_word count.


(1) Winner: PKR 10,000; 1st runner-up: PKR 7,500; 2nd runner-up: PKR 2,500. We wish it were tenfold that amount, but Sando is still a rookie at armed robberies.

(2) We will pay the winners through bank checks or cash transfers.


(1) Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author; however, the winners and runners-up grant Weekly Chokus:

(a) the right to publish their entry before anyone else in print or online.

(b) non-exclusive rights to their entry, including the right to display their entry indefinitely on the Weekly Chokus website, and the right to include their entry in an anthology.
